I had dinner with a friend last night, and we talked about a guy she’s been seeing.
A guy who, ‘it’s complicated with’, and they’re not ‘officially’ boyfriend and girlfriend.
I know the obvious meaning that both people are not dating anyone else but does it also imply that both have agreed to be in a relationship? Does "dating exclusively" automatically imply being girlfriend and boyfriend?
I always thought the difference is that at the boyfriend/girlfriend level they are becoming involved in certain aspects of your life.
For example, he/she might be involved in many of your circle-of-friend activities.
In other words, it doesn’t matter what an amazing guy he is if he’s told you things like “I never want to be married,” “I’m too busy for a relationship,” “I’m not looking for anything serious,” and so on.
Women waste years on men who said they want a casual relationship on their terms only – and then claim to be shocked when it turns out he was telling the truth.
