Hometown bias aside, I would say Chicago (only for culture). Chicago is: Dense, walkable, powerful, transit-friendly, diverse, progressive, cosmopolitan, good urban planning, healthy industry, full of unique character, safe at the same time, its: Provincial, backwater, racist, segregated, corrupt, collapsing infrastructure, violent, auto-centric Every US city has it to some degree, but Chicago most encapsulates the median between them.
The rest of the country is either completely unknown or heavily stereotyped by foreigners (poverty and religious fanaticism in the South, crime and urban decay in northern cities, an omnipresence of morbid obesity everywhere else, etc.).
For National Hispanic Heritage Month, we recognize significant cultural sites on American public lands and reflect on the need to tell more stories about the contributions of Hispanic Americans to our modern nation. National parks, monuments and other sites that chronicle U. history and culture do not often recognize Latinos and other traditionally underrepresented groups.
