Southerlies would be strong over much of the North Island, and there would be more rain.Areas expected to be hit by the heaviest rain are Taranaki, Bay of Plenty and the ranges of Gisborne, and from Waitomo to Taupo and Tongariro across to the headwaters of the Whanganui River.
